The Mercedes GLA45 AMG is really the only one you can buy in the U.S. right now, isn’t it? I mean, BMW doesn’t make an X1 M (at least not yet...) and we can’t have the RSQ3 over here. Unless I’m completely missing/forgetting one...

SQ5 is as close as it gets I think...even though its bigger.

Porsche Macan Turbo is pretty stinkin fast, but not sure how it compares to the Merc in terms of price...

The Macan Turbo is %50 more expensive (48k vs 72k).

Macan S, with 340 horsepower, is $50k. Personally I find that to be more interesting than the GLA45.

Yikes, that's more than I thought. And I agree, the Porsche is more interesting than the Mercedes.

A question - isn’t this just an example of an off roader that isn’t any good off road, and a street car that would be a miserable daily driver? Having never driven one ...

Oh I love HK taxes. Here a GLA is US$104,000. The Macan Turbo is $50k more, but if I’m honest, if I wanted a good drive with a little offroad functionality, I’d just get a Macan S which is mildly cheaper than a GLA 45.

There’s the Macan S, like Saracen pointed out. But in hindsight the Macan is really just an Audi SQ5 anyway...

Ah, the Macan. That’s what I was forgetting! Although as Saracen pointed out there is a bit of a price discrepancy between a GLA45 AMG and a Macan Turbo.

I’ve never driven one either, but I don’t think they’re too bad as DDs, if you spec them right. I mean, the Jalopnik guys gave the GLA45 a 69 rating overall in their review, which isn’t completely terrible.

There’s no explaining the level of irritation I have when I see the GLA 45. I don’t understand why it’s so expensive, nor do I understand the reason for the GLA’s reason for being. It’s a jacked up A-Class that isn’t jacked up far enough to have any offroad capabilities. Why not pay nearly US$10k less for an A45 AMG which is already eye-wateringly expensive?

Well, for one thing, we don’t get the A-Class in the US. I do see how having the CLA, A, and GLA all in the same market is kind of pointless, but since we don’t get the A over here, it doesn’t seem so pointless. But then again, that’s my opinion.
